In my science class, I could use blogs for students to record observations about a phenomenon they were watching or experiment they were conducting over a number of days. This would be especially useful if it was a project they were working on at home so that students could get an idea of what their peers were working on. They could also take and upload pictures of the project so everyone could see it.
For math, blogs could be used as electronic journals for students to reflect on their grasp of processes and concepts. Students could even pose questions and help each other with homework or projects on their blogs.
In general blogs might be useful as a possible make-up assignment for students that have missed a few days of class. Part of their assignment (particularly for elementary students) could be to write a story about something they did or something that happened while they were gone. If a student were sick or injured for a long time, his/her classmates could communicate with him/her via the blog so there would still be a connection to the class.
